Ruthless Simplicity

Overwhelm.

That is the consistent emotion that Founders tell me they are experiencing when they reach out to me for advice or coaching…

“I’m feeling so stressed right now.”

“There’s just so much going on.”

“I’m feeling scattered and lost.”

“I don’t know what to do next.”

The words may be different with each person, but the root is the same for these Founders:

They are feeling overwhelmed.

Why?

Because they have lost control of their calendar’s and have not applied the Law of Ruthless Simplicity.

What is the Law of Ruthless Simplicity?

It must be simple to know where you should put your attention and your time.

You do this by figuring out what the BIG problem you need to solve is.

A lot of the issues that you're facing are symptomatic issues of a deeper problem. 

Sometimes we get so caught up in reacting to the surface issues or the ones that are grabbing our attention, that we're not able to get down deep and say, ”Okay, wait a minute. What’s underneath all this stuff? What is the real problem to solve?”

Until you've got clarity, you cannot take action.

That’s why you need to make sure your calendar and the problem(s) you’re trying to solve are ruthlessly simple to identify. 

That doesn’t mean those problems will be “simple”, per se, but you will have clarity and be able to say “No.” to or let go of issues that shouldn’t be demanding your time as a Founder or tasks that you should be delegating to your team.

If you aren’t ruthless about this, you are not going to change anything and you're going to remain in the same state of overwhelm. 

So, a big part of what I do when I'm coaching a Founder is figuring out:

1. How do we make this simple?
2. How do we figure out the problem to solve?
